Like the cirques, the frequently erupting Piton de la Fournaise is part of Reunion’s UNESCO World Heritage site, and is one of the world’s most active volcanoes. With its strikingly beautiful scenery, it is also not to be missed off your Reunion Island bucket list. When driving to the volcano you will be amazed by the diversity of landscapes, whether Plaine des Cafres or the incredible Plaine des Sables: a lunar desert that would seem more at home on another planet! You will also be impressed by the various features of the volcano itself: craters, hardened lava and its unique vegetation.
